Dear Readers,

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week occurs annually from February 25-March 3. As we are both in recovery, we decided to report on it as a team.

Together, we brainstormed a print and digital collaboration between The Temple News and REFINE to share the raw and real struggles of eating disorders -- and the joys of recovery.

And when two editors come together in the name of recovery, something incredible happens.

This year’s National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is “Come as You Are,” and The Temple News’ Intersection and REFINE created a collaborative issue to do just that. Together, we’re bringing you print and online content to highlight real struggles with eating disorders and real joys of recovery.

Throughout the week, we’ll share personal stories, report on eating disorders in D1 athletics and discuss how eating disorders can manifest in people of multiple genders. We’ll also report on success — how weight training can aid recovery and how a cycling instructor changed her teaching style based on her own recovery journey.

You can find the full collaboration on our website, as well as on temple-news.com, along with videos and photos.

We hope that this collaboration informs you about the reality of living with an eating disorder in college and fosters healthy conversations about how to recover from these disorders.

Sincerely,

Sarah Madaus, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of REFINE Magazine

Claire Wolters, Intersection Editor of The Temple News
